To many of us we have a picture in our heads of a typical traditional teacher filling the whole classroom blackboard up with lines of maths problems to be solved or a teacher writing many sentences to explain a diagram.
But, many modern instructors have new teaching tools and devices at their disposal, such as digital projectors that will project whatever is on a computer onto a wall or screen and doesn’t require any erasers, messy chalk dust or that horrible squeaking, scratching noise that blackboards tend to make. This is our Projector Room with facilities for better explanation to our students. The different modules availed by respective publishers do a complementary job of addition newer dimensions to the teaching practices at SSPS.
We give our students the option to be either day or full time boarders. Our hostels are fully provided for with beds, wardrobes and study desks, offering our students a clean, comfortable and homely environment. A spacious common room offers recreational and entertainment facilities to students. Guided study hours in the afternoon as well as evenings are maintained. Nutritious and healthy meals are served in a neat and hygienic environment. The House Parents of the boys and girls hostels provide a caring environment to all students. In addition, experienced supervisors ensure special care of younger students.
Our routine outdoor activities for boarders include: Trips to historical sites, Trekking, Out-door picnics, Dance and Drama, Sports camps, Instrument and vocal music competitions, Environment and recycling activities and Art and crafts work.
The campus is fully secure with 24/7 IP camera based security and round the clock guards on duty. No trespassers are allowed. The bright and well-ventilated dormitories make for comfortable and collective living. Each child has his/her own individual bed space and large shelf area to keep their clothes and other items of personal use. Mattresses, Bedspreads, Pillows, etc. are provided by the hostel. It is an imposing and elegant edifice. This hostel houses boys and girls in separate dormitories. This spacious building is self-sufficient in all respects. Safeguarding and promoting good health of the students is the foremost among other concerns of the hostel. It is for this reason that the hostel maintains an exceptional level of cleanliness.
A wonderful facet of the hostel is that all the services within the hostel are all manned and managed by efficient and professional staff. Whether it is managing hostel play ground, reading room, serving in the dinning hall, maintaining the dietary kitchen, looking after the hostel garden, running the weekend entertainment presentations, looking after the upkeep of the vicinity or any other service, boys and girls are encouraged to voluntarily take up some responsibility as per their liking and interests along with the deputed personnels. It serves to infuse in them the virtues of service, co-operation and dignity of labour, besides providing them invaluable work experience.
The school also has a composite science lab which caters to the students of primary and middle school where they unravel and explore the world of science.
At the primary level students are familiarized with the apparatus, equipments and specimens along with demonstrations of various experiments by teachers to develop an understanding and interest towards the subject.
At high school level students are given opportunities to experiment together, make observations and arrive at conclusions which enable them to co-operate and work as a team, a skill that is indispensable in today’s world.
Library The library is a source of information, wisdom and inspiration. Students of all ages are encouraged to take full advantage of it to help them develop life-long skills to set their foundation in this Information Age. SSPS has a modern well updated library which holds a central position, both in relevance and in curriculum. Its comprehensive collection of resources is available for use by all members of the school for study, personal, recreation and relaxation purposes. Students from non-English speaking backgrounds are encouraged to maintain literacy in their first language, which is supported by a growing collection of books in different languages.
Periodicals and Databases: The School library subscribes to different periodicals for almost all ages groups and classes in Hindi as well as in English languages that includes general knowledge, sports, politics, social, daily news papers and what not.
Borrowing books: Books may be borrowed for one week and they can be returned or changed earlier if so desired. All books must be returned before the week-ends or vacations.
Late, lost or damaged books: In case a student is late in returning books, either a reminder is given to the student in default or a note is put in the student diary. A letter asking for payment may also be sent to parents. If a book is damaged, please return it to school so we can try to repair it. If it is beyond repair, an account may be sent home. Students are taught how to care for books and have to follow a clear guideline on the dos and don’ts in the library.
Creativity and aesthetics sector has its prominent place in every healthy and growing institution. Art and Craft is a creative and fun session that is conducted for the children of SSPS from Play Centre to class – IX.
All classes from PC to class – IX (all sections) of the school have regular art and craft periods in their weekly timetable. Individually, each child will work on a drawing book and a craft book. Besides that, the craft instructors at our school take the children through a range of creative group activities.
To encourage the competitive spirit among our students, we regularly conduct inter-house competitions. Those with an artistic bent of mind have their skills honed by our experts and are provided opportunities to represent the school in inter-school competitions. In fact, our students have gone right up to national level competitions.
Art and Craft exhibitions are regularly held and every class has an art & craft depiction board, where the works of students are displayed. All club based art activities have a theme around which all work is centred.
Teaching in Maths is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and focused clearly on developing pupils’ understanding of important concepts by our dedicated and experienced trainers. Pupils encounter a variety of learning opportunities with an emphasis on developing mathematical independence through rich tasks, mathematical discussion and use of appropriate technology. Functional skills activities help prepare students for maths beyond the classroom.
There are six areas of learning:
Number Algebra Ratio & Proportion Rates of Change Geometry
Probability Statistics
It is really important that pupils constantly revise their maths learning from their lessons by solving more and more mathematical problems from different books at their homes. This will help them recall the information that they need in their exams at the end of the course. The earlier that they start revising the better prepared they will be: they should read through their notes from lessons and ensure that they fully understand the mathematical concepts covered. If they don’t understand then they should ask their teacher for some help!
